Koller chooses Dortmund i found this article @ http://www.internetsoccer.com/ 25 May 2001 (TEAMtalk) -- Anderlecht's Czech striker Jan Koller has snubbed English side Fulham with news that he has signed for German outfit Borussia Dortmund. Fulham boss Jean Tigana had looked like winning the race to secure the services of the 28-year-old giant when it was earlier revealed that Dortmund had been put off by Anderlecht's US$12 million valuation of the player. The Cottagers were ready to offer Koller a four-year contract worth £20,000 a week. But Koller was tempted to sign for Dortmund because of their involvement in next season's Champions League -- having finished third in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich and Schalke -- and it is thought the Germans have now agreed to pay somewhere in the region of US$10.5 million for his signature. A Dortmund spokeswoman confirmed: "Koller has signed a four-year contract starting next season. Both clubs have agreed not to reveal the transfer amount." Anderlecht had previously confirmed The Cottagers' worst fears by claiming he will head to Germany. The Belgian side's general manager Michel Verschueren said: "As there is already an agreement with Fulham, the ball is in the player's court. He will choose on Friday and we think he will opt for Dortmund." |
