Sunderland consider Koller bid Found @ http://www.internetsoccer.com/ 23 February 2001 (TEAMtalk.com) -- Sunderland boss Peter Reid could test Anderlecht with a cut-price £9million bid for striker Jan Koller before transfer deadline day next month. The Sunderland boss has been tracking the 6ft.-7in. front-man for several months now but was told he was unlikely to land the player while the Belgians were still involved in the Champions League. However, their midweek defeat to Leeds all but ends Anderlecht's progression in the competition and may tempt Reid into trying to get Koller at a cut-price after the Belgian champions initially placed a £16million fee on his head. Reid has come under fire from supporters of late for failing to spend and strengthen the squad at the Stadium of Light while Sunderland were in such a strong position in the Premiership. But he hit back by claiming: "If there's someone out there who I want, I won't be scared to go out and buy him." As for Koller, well Reid has make no secret of the fact he is a big admirer of the hit-man who he sees as a possible replacement for the injury-ravaged Niall Quinn. "I like the boy. He's a good player although I'm monitoring a number of players," said the Black Cats boss. |
